Melanie "Mellie" Martinous
Melanie “Mellie” Martinous, Mellie Hair Salon’s owner and Master Stylist, has worked in the beauty and fashion industry for over 19 years. Mellie is recognized nationally as a hair design master, especially at precision razor cutting and sharp, modern updos.
Mellie graduated from Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Massachusetts with a BA in Graphic Design in 1990, and then enrolled in Beauty School in Boston to pursue her lifelong dream being a hair designer. After graduating 1st in her class from Blaine Beauty Academy in Boston, Mellie mastered women’s and men’s precision haircutting under the tutelage of Master Stylist David Schumann at Linear Aveda in Boston’s South End in the early 1990’s.
In 1995, Melanie was recruited for a position as Senior Stylist at startup Grettacole Spa in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and she jumped at this opportunity of a lifetime. There, she further developed her skills as a high-end, professional stylist working and training side-by-side with Bravo’s famous style maven, Gretchen (Gretta) Monahan, being among Gretta’s first few employees. After over a decade at “Best of Boston” winner Grettacole, Melanie took her talent to another "Best of Boston" salon in Hingham, Mass., working as Senior Stylist and Creative Director.
In 2006, Mellie decided to take her many years of experience working with the best in the industry, and she fullfiled her lifelong dream of business ownership by opening Mellie Hair Design in East Milton Square, MA.
Melanie has trained personally and directly with industry names including Vivian Mackinder, David Schumann, Gretta Monahan, and Nick Arrojo . She has studied advanced color correction and balayage at L’Oreal Advanced Academy in soho, NYC, and advanced razor cutting at Bumble & Bumble in Manhattan.

Most recently (October 2011), Melanie brought her "Top-Gun-Stylist" Janine Walsh, to the ARROJO Inspirations cutting workshop at Nick ARROJO's Education Academy in NYC where they both studied and practiced advanced razor cutting techniques with ARROJO'S Master Stylists during this intensive, two day, seminar/workshop.
NYC. During of January, 2011, Melanie attended ARROJO EXPO in NYC. She brought her entire staff to this amazing, 2 day, advanced education and business development event. Mellie's focus during this event was business development, and her classes (taught by Nick Arrojo) focused on creating the ultimate high-end salon experience for Mellie Hair Salon's clients.
Her training also includes Minardi Beauty Focus in Manhattan, and Mellie studied Contemporary Updo Theory at Aveda Institute in Minneapolis. Mellie also was trained in advanced modern updo theory with Kevin Murphy's team at Kaliedescope in Boston. In June 2010, Mellie learned advanced cutting techniques (accompanied by her employee/stylist Janine Walsh) with Master Stylist Travis Parker at L'Oreal Advanced Academy in NYC.
In November 2009, Mellie studied directly with Nick Arrojo at his advanced education center in NYC, further developing her skills in modern hair styling and business development.
Mellie is certified and experienced with SoCap Hair Extensions.
Mellie's updo skills are impossible to match, even by the most experienced artists. Her ability to create modern, unique, exquisite updos is a mystery to anyone who has ever had the pleasure of having their bridal, special occasion or prom updo spun by Mellie. Blushing brides, Prom Gals, and Bridesmaids have literally left the salon in tears, never believing their hair could look so perfect on such an important day... Mellie's updo skills are a gift indeed.
Mellie's real passion is cutting and she believes that hair should suit every aspect of a client, encompassing face and body shape, style, personality, and lifestyle. Beautiful hair should be easily achieved on a daily basis, and compliment, not compete with an individual’s beauty. Employing Melanie’s philosophy couldn’t be easier, with her super-stylish, yet low maintenance hairstyles. However, her love for hair doesn’t end with the service. Melanie hand-picks every item and product that is sold and used at the salon, ensuring clients easy styling on their own.

Sandra
Sandra, originally from Big Bear Lake, California, has worked in the beauty industry for a total of eleven years, and brings seven years’ experience as a hair designer to Mellie Hair Salon. Sandra’s advanced training includes the beauty industry’s top professionals from L’Oreal Academy in NYC and Paul Mitchell in LA, not to mention her training directly with Mellie.
She specializes in precision colors and highlights. Sandra's focus is for her client's hair to be as fluid and natural as possible, and she applies her advanced coloring techniques to create rich, complex colors, and dynamic, multi-dimentional highlights for her clients that compliment their natural beauty. Sandra's phenominal skills as a colorist and her command of color theory are unmatched in the industry, and after one visit to her chair you will leave the salon breathless and wanting more.
Janine
Originally from Walpole, Massachusetts, Janine brings for 7 years of hair designing experience to Mellie Hair Salon. She joined Mellie Hair Salon after working for several years at an award-winning salon in West Roxbury, Massachusetts.

She has also studied modern color correction at Kaliescope in Boston. Janine has also trained extensively with Mellie herself, mastering advanced cutting techniques and foil placement. She has truely trained with the best in the business.
Janine is a proven, cross-trained, stylist and colorist, and her deep expertise shows in her consistently impeccable work. Her clients will frequently book their appointments several months in advance to ensure an appointment with her. During her 2+ years at Mellie Hair Salon, Janine has gained a very loyal following of clients, not only because of her dedication to precision, expert work, but also because of her sweet, outgoing and unpretentious personality.

Jennifer
Jennifer is from Mansfield, Massachusetts, and she brings 3 1/2 years of high-end hair design experience to Mellie Hair Salon.
She began her career at an upscale salon in located in Mansfield, Mass., where she worked directly with the salon's Owner/Master Colorist as his apprentice. Under his tutelage, she mastered advanced foil placement, and developed an expertise in the art of multi-dimentional highlights. Jennifer also excels at modern updos, and can "wow" any bride with her exceptional updo skills
Jennifer is Mellie Hair Salon's "Rising Star" Master Colorist. In January of 2012, Mellie sent her to the first phase of Wella's three-phase, "Expert Master Colorist" training program at Wella's Advanced Color Training Studio located in Rockefeller Center in NYC. Jen will be back in NYC for 5 more full days in March 2012 for phase two, and then back for 5 more full days in June 2012 for phase three, after which she'll be officially certified as a "Wella Expert Master Colorist." If it were up to us, we'd already give her the designation, but the official certificate from Wella is only a few months away. Jennifer has been working and studying extremely hard preparing for this super-intensive, color training program, and the first phase was a full-blown success for her (she passed it with "flying colors")... when you see Jen at Mellie Hair Salon, ask about her experience and preparation.... she'll talk your ear off about it...

Jennifer is certified and experienced with Cinderella Hair Extensions.
Jennifer's color skills are phenominal, and she uses her color brush more like a Magic Wand than a brush, delivering expertly-placed, multi-dimentional highlights that often cause her clients to leave the salon with a huge smile and a little extra "pep in their step."
Katelyn
Katelyn is Mellie Hair Salon's Master Colorist, and the salon's Color Director. She brings over 12 years of the highest-level color training and experience to Mellie Hair Salon.
Katelyn grew up in Stoneham, Massachusetts surrounded by creativity and fashion, and she was always encouraged by her family to do what she felt passionate about...which is hair.
She attended the world-renowned Vidal Sassoon Academy in Los Angeles. After graduating from Sassoon's intensive 12-month training program, she found herself back east in New York City. Katelyn began her career at Oscar Bond Salon (which is rated one of the top ten salons worldwide by Salon News, The Oscar Bond Salon has been featured in such magazines as In Style, Mademoiselle, Jane, Marie Clare, Self, GQ, Details, YM, Soho Style, Time Out and Vogue.) located in the heart of Manhattan's soho neighborhood. The salon's owner/lead colorist, Wendy Bond, took Katelyn "under her wing" and taught her all about color theory and highlighting. After a brief period as Wendy's apprentice, she began taking clients, and Katelyn quickly became one of the Oscar Bond's busiest colorists. After 6 years she ventured out and became the Color Director at DeBerardinis Salon in NYC's Chelsea neighborhood. There she continued her success as a top colorist, and she also directed the salon's apprentice program. After relocating back to Boston for family reasons, Katelyn worked at G Spa on Newbury Street, and then decided to bring her many talents to Mellie Hair Salon.

Debbie
Debbie is one of Mellie's Junior Stylists, and an up-and-coming superstar. She's originally from Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood, and Deb graduated at the top of her class from cosmetology school. She brings a very high level of dedication, motivation and love for hair design to Mellie Hair Salon. She's one of the sweetest and most caring gals you'll ever meet.
Really, Debbie should be charging at least 50% more than she currently charges for a haircut, but we want Mellie's clients to experience her raw talent now, at Junior Stylist prices, because yes, we're nice like that.
Debbie has trained on a regular basis with Mellie (which is priceless training indeed, just ask anybody...) and other Mellie Stylists to develop and refine her cutting skills, and Deb's well on her way to higher recognition as a "super stylist" very shortly... remember, we told you here first. Watch and see...
From February 5-7, 2012, Mellie is sending Debbie to the world renowned Arrojo Classic Cuts seminar at Arrojo Studio in soho, NYC to further enhance and elevate her cutting skills. This is an intensive (think Marine Corps Boot Camp), 3 day cutting and styling seminar/workshop taught by world famous stylist Nick Arrojo and his Master Stylists at Nick's advanced training academy in New York City. This advanced seminar focuses on modern styling trends and helps the stylist develop their scissor cutting and styling techniques that are a must for any hairdresser wanting to be on the cutting edge. Go get 'em Debbie!
If I were you, I'd take advantage of Debbie's prices as a Junior Stylist now, as they certainly won't be at this price level for very long! You won't be sorry!
